Seven Women Chosen For Tournament of Roses Court

One of the finalists will be selected as queen for the annual Pasadena event.

Seven Pasadena-area women were selected Monday morning to represent the 2015 Tournament of Roses.

The women will attend a series of up to 100 community events leading up to the 126th Rose Parade and Rose Bowl football game on New Year’s Day.

The Royal Court members are: Mackenzie Joy Byers, 18, of Pasadena City College; Gabrielle Ann Current, 18, of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy; Veronica Sara Mejia, 19, of Pasadena City College; Bergen Louise Onufer, 17, of Mayfield Senior School; Simona K. Shao, 17, of Westridge School; Emily Alicia Olivas Stoker, 17, of Temple City High School; and Madison Elaine Triplett, 17, of John Marshall Fundamental High School.

“We are confident that the seven young women selected for the 2015 Royal Court will be outstanding ambassadors,” Mark Leavens, chair of the Tournament of Roses Queen and Court Committee, said in a statement.

One member of the court will be selected as the 97th Rose Queen on Oct. 21 in a ceremony at Pasadena Civic Auditorium Plaza. The seven women on the court were selected from 31 finalists out of more than 700 participants.

Selection criteria includes academic achievement, community and school involvement, poise and speaking ability.
