Jogger Assaulted in Whittier Narrows Recreation Area

A woman was attacked while jogging in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte and sexually assaulted, authorities said Friday.

The woman was on a trail about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Durfee Road when a man approached her from behind and pulled her into some bushes, where he sexually assaulted her, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"The victim was able to fight the suspect off and escape," sheriff's officials said. "The suspect rode off on his bike toward Durfee Road and out of view."

The man is described as 20-30 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds, with light skin, a black fade-style haircut and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. He wore a black T-shirt and black sweatpants.
