1 Killed, 1 Hurt in South LA Drive-By Shooting

An 18-year-old was killed and another person taken to a hospital after a shooting in South Los Angeles on Wednesday, police said.

The shooter or shooters in an SUV fired several rounds into a Kia sedan near 68th Street and Denker Avenue, striking a 16-year-old driver and 18-year-old passenger, Los Angeles police said.

"The light colored SUV pulled in the opposite lane of direction, pulled next to the blue car and began to shoot for no apparent reason," LAPD Detective Chris Barling said.

The Kia driver crashed into a fire hydrant and sent water gushing into the air, police said.

The 18-year-old passenger later died. He was identified as Keion Coleman, the driver's brother, investigators said.

Police were searching for a man and woman in a light-colored SUV as of Wednesday night.

Barling said police are hoping witnesses will come forward with cellphone video. Officials said the shooting is likely gang-related.
