Southbound 73 Toll Road Reopened After Newport Beach Brush Fire

The California Highway Patrol has reopened all lanes of the southbound 73 toll road at Newport Coast Drive after it was closed Saturday from a brush fire near the toll plaza.

The lanes were closed just after 3:30 p.m., when the blaze broke out. Lanes 1 and 2 were reopened at 5:49 p.m., the rest were made available at about 8:40 p.m.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi told City News Service said about 80 firefighters from the OCFA, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach departments rushed to the scene, and were able to bring it under control at around 5 p.m.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, Concialdi said.

The total acreage consumed by the fire has not yet been calculated, Concialdi said.
