Clippers Rookie Branden Dawson Arrested on Suspicion of Spousal Abuse

Los Angeles Clippers rookie forward Branden Dawson was arrested on suspicion of spousal abuse, officials confirmed.

Dawson was taken into custody at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the 6500 block of Crescent Park in Playa Vista, after officers responded to a call for service, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was booked into jail and held on $50,000 bail before his release at 1:15 p.m.

Ironically, the Clippers announced on Saturday that Dawson had been recalled from the NBA's Developmental League Erie Hawks and was on the Clippers active roster for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which he did not attend.

Clippers head coach and general manager Doc Rivers told NBC that he was not informed of Dawson's arrest until minutes before he walked out onto the court for the start of the game.

"It's an awful situation as far as I'm concerned," Rivers said. "I have a daughter, so I know firsthand how terrible of a situation it is."

Rivers went on to add that as of now, it's "too early" to determine whether or not Dawson will be released or suspended by the team. Previous such incidents usually involve a suspension by both the team and the NBA, but Rivers made sure to mention that the Clippers are still gathering all the information.

"It's a private situation, and I think it's something they should handle away from the cameras," said Christine Davis, a fan.
