Lakers rookie forward Derrick Caracter was arrested and jailed in New Orleans on Sunday morning after he allegedly grabbed and shoved a waitress at an IHOP while intoxicated.

According to New Orleans police, Caracter was refused service at the IHOP because he was "obviously drunk and unruly" and began to harass the cashier. He was subsequently arrested after he was "uncooperative and belligerent" with the responding officers.

The Laker was booked with simple battery on the waitress, public drunkenness and resisting arrest.

The Lakers were in New Orleans playing the Hornets in their first-round playoff series, which the Hornets evened up at two games apiece after beating LA on Sunday night. The incident happened near the Lakers' hotel on a night there was no game.

The little-used Caracter was a second-round pick out of UTEP in 2010. He played 41 games in the regular season, where he averaged two points and one rebound per game, and has been on the inactive list for the playoffs.

In an earlier version of the story, NBC LA reported that the waitress was pregnant, based off information given by New Orleans police. On Monday afternoon, a NOPD spokesman clarified that the waitress was not pregnant.
