NFL Star, Fiancee Arrested in Atlantic City

NFL superstar Ray Rice, 27, and his fiancee Janay A. Palmer were arrested in Atlantic City early Saturday morning, according to Sgt. Monica McMenamin of the Atlantic City Police Department.

Atlantic City Police responded to the Revel Casino at 2:51 a.m.

The Baltimore Ravens running back and his fiancee were arrested for domestic violence-simple assault and released on a summons, according to McMenamin. After reviewing surveillance footage, the police department determined both parties were involved in a physical altercation. The summons says both struck each other with their hands.

The Baltimore Sun reported the woman with Rice was his fiancee and that Rice's attorney Andrew Alperstein described the arrest as a "very minor physical altercation."

Michael Diamondstein, another attorney for Rice, says that he's hopeful that after an investigation "the matter turns out to be little more than a misunderstanding."

Ravens' director of public relations Chad Steele told the Baltimore Sun, "We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

Both Rice and Palmer refused medical attention and no injuries were reported.

Rice played for Rutgers University and was drafted in the second round of the 2008 National Football League draft by Baltimore. He is a three-time Pro Bowler with the Ravens.
