German Men Sweep Large Hill Nordic Combined

German skiers earned their country three more medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics by sweeping men's Nordic combined individual large hill/10 km competition on Tuesday.

The Nordic combined is comprised of two portions: ski jumping and, later in the day, cross-country.

Japan's Akito Watabe took the lead on the hill but was overtaken by the Germans on the flat and finished fifth.

Germany was the team to beat after winning all four available gold medals at last year's World Championships. German Johannes Rydzek, the reigning world champion, took first place, followed by compatriots Fabian Riessle and Eric Frenzel, who has won gold in the normal hill competition and the last five World Cup titles. Ryzdek was in fourth after the ski jump.

Bryan Fletcher did the best among the Americans, finishing in 17th place.
