Men's Diving: Americans Michael Hixon, Kristian Ipsen Advance to 3m Springboard Final

Michael Hixon and Kristian Ipsen will compete for Team USA in the finals

China's Yuan Cao remains the man to beat in the men's individual 3M springboard in Rio.

Cao recorded a 489.10 in the semifinals Tuesday to lead the top 12 ahead of the finals at 5 p.m. ET. Mexico's Rommel Pacheco finished second with 469.7 points. Both had also led in preliminary competition heading into the semifinals.  

Americans Michael Hixon and Kristian Ipsen also made it to the final. Hixon was in fourth place with 467.25 points.

Ipsen, a native of Clayton, California, who attended Stanford University and won bronze in the synchronized 3m in London with Troy Dumais, finished seventh.
