The Redskins ran all over the Rams as Washington won their first game of the season, defeating Los Angeles, 27-20 on Sunday afternoon at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.

Rob Kelley rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries before he was knocked out of the game with a rib injury in the second quarter.

The loss of Kelley didn't seem to matter for the Redskins as Chris Thompson filled in nicely with three carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

Thompson got the Redskins their first touchdown of the game in the second quarter when he capped off a 6-play, 65-yard scoring drive, scampering seven yards for the score.

Todd Gurley fumbled on the following possession and the Redskins were in business inside the redzone. The Rams defense would hold Washington to a field goal, giving Gurley a chance at redemption.

Gurley made the most of his second chance as he punched in the Rams first touchdown when he ran up the gut from the one-yard line with 9:59 remaining in the half.

The four-play, 75-yard drive, was highlighted by a 69-yard pass from Goff to rookie Gerald Everett that set the Rams up on the Washington six-yard line.

Thompson would give the Rams a punch in the gut to end the first half, when he broke fee for a 61-yard touchdown run that put the Redskins back up by 10.

Aaron Donald returned to the team earlier in the week, and made his first start with the Rams after a month long holdout that lasted most of training camp.

Donald led the defense in the second half as the Rams held the Redskins scoreless, striking first on a highlight worthy catch and run by Gurley.

Gurley caught a screen pass from quarterback Jared Goff on the Washington 18-yard-line and then proceeded to hurdle a Redskins' defender has he dove for the pylon for the score.

The Rams used some trickery midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game when punter Johnny Hekker faked the punt, and delivered a strike to receiver Josh Reynolds for the huge first down pick up on fourth and six.

The Rams would tie the game on a 40-yard field goal for Greg Zuerlein, but a final minute touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins to Ryan Grant put the Redskins up 27-20 with just over a minute left to play.

On the ensuing drive, Jared Goff threw an interception to Foster that sealed the deal.
