Dodgers Reach Century Mark in 9-3 Victory Over Padres

Yu Darvish was perfect through four innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres, 9-3, to earn their 100th victory of the season on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

The first 100 are the hardest.

Logan Forsythe and Austin Barnes each homered and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres, 9-3, to earn their 100th victory of the season on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.

Forsythe provided most of the offense through the first few innings of the game, as the second baseman hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the first inning to give the Dodgers an early lead.

Two innings later, Forsythe sent a 85MPH fastball over the fence in left-center for solo home run that gave extended the lead to 5-1.

Forsythe had a field day against his former team as he finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, home run, walk, four RBI and three runs scored.

"Right now I think this is the right path for my swing. The results have been good," said Forsythe of his night. "It's nice to contribute a little bit. It's a lot of fun."

The Dodgers continued to pile on as Austin Barnes, making a rare start at second base, hit his eighth homer of the season when he launched a 95MPH fastball over the wall in right-center for an 8-1 lead.

"I think as a whole we did a really good job of working the counts and making him [Travis Wood] work tonight," Barnes said. "We did damage with runners on, it was a big night for us."

The two homers by Forsythe and Barnes gave the Dodgers a franchise record 214 on the season. The previous record was 211 homers in a single season, accomplished by the 2000 team.

Yu Darvish was perfect through the first four innings, but ran into a little trouble in the top of the fifth inning.

After he hit Cory Spangenberg with a pitch to end his perfect game, Hunter Renfroe followed with an RBI double that ended the no-hitter and the shutout in a single swing.

The run would turn out to be the lone run scored by San Diego off Darvish (10-12), as he recorded the win, allowing just one run on two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in seven solid innings.

"It was good to see his confidence continue to build," said Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts of Darvish. "It was really good to see."

Since he was acquired from the Texas Rangers at the MLB trade deadline, Darvish is 4-3 with a 3.48 ERA in nine starts with the Dodgers.

"I think I'm in a good place physically and mentally," Darvish said after the game.

Kenta Maeda made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen in the top of the eighth and things got a bit wild for the Japanese right-hander.

After hitting Autin Hedges with an errant curveball, San Diego got back-to-back infield singles by Matt Szczur and Carlos Asuaje before an error on Barnes gave the Padres two extra runs.

"I thought Kenta threw the baseball well," Roberts said of Maeda. "The stuff was really good. I thought it was very encouraging."

Pedro Baez had a rocky start to the ninth inning, but he struck out Hedges to end the game.

The victory also gave the Dodgers their 55th home win of the season, tied with the 1980 and 2015 Dodgers for the most wins at home in a single season in Los Angeles franchise history.

The Cleveland Indians were off on Monday so the Dodgers improve to a 1.5 games ahead for the best record in baseball.
