The final matchweek of the 2021-22 Premier League season is in the books.

On the line entering Matchweek 38 was a championship, multiple Europe competition bids and the dreadful fate of relegation.

Manchester City and Liverpool were the two teams duking it out for the title. City needed to beat Aston Villa to secure the title while the Reds needed to defeat Wolverhampton and hope Steven Gerrard's side could help them out.

A few spots below were Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham. The former two were battling for a UEFA Champions League berth while the latter two were going for a UEFA Europa League spot.

Then at the bottom of the table were Leeds United and Burnley hoping to avoid Norwich City and Watford as the teams playing in the EFL Championship next season.

Watch the drama unfold with our guide on where to watch each game.

So how did everything play out? Here’s a look at the Premier League from this week's games:

Matchweek 38

Sunday

Liverpool 3 - 1 Wolves

Things started shaky for Liverpool after conceding in the third minute. The Reds needed to win to have a chance at the title, and the outlook improved after Sadio Mane's equalizer in the 24th minute. Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson added two goals in the final six minutes before stoppage time to seal the win, but it was up to former Red Steven Gerrard to help his former team out.

Manchester City 3 - 2 Aston Villa

City, much like their distastrous ending in the UCL at the hands of Real Madrid, were on the brink of losing the Premier League after Phillippe Coutinho's goal in the 69th minute made it 2-0. But the Sky Blues have seen madness happen on Championship Sunday before, and they were in for another. Ilkay Gundogan came off the bench and delivered a header in the 76th minute to keep hope alive. Then Rodri laced one from outside the box to level it two minutes later. And when it mattered most, Kevin De Bruyne found Gundogan at the back post to make it 3-2 in the 81st minute. Madness indeed. City wins the title.

Arsenal 5 - 1 Everton

Now we switch gears to Arsenal, in need of a win and a Spurs loss to qualify for the UCL. Five different players found the back of the net in this whopping 5-1 victory. Gabriel Martinelli opened the account with a penalty in the 27th minute, followed by goals from Eddie Nketiah, Cedric Soares, Gabriel Magalhaes and Martin Odegaard. If the Gunners played like this in any of their last two games, they would've been UCL bound.

Norwich City 0 - 5 Tottenham

Could Norwich help out Arsenal and upset Tottenham? Dejan Kulusevski's goal in the 16th minute seemed to erase any hope of a miracle, and the Spurs just kept on coming at a team who will be playing in the EFL Championship next season. Son Heung-min scored a brace to win the Golden Boot as Spurs dominated 5-0.

Crystal Palace 1 - 0 Manchester United

Manchester United were playing for a spot in the UEFA Europa League. A loss and a West Ham win would've dropped them to seventh place, which would've put them in the UEFA Europa Conference League. United's nightmare season had one more nightmare in it. A Wilfried Zaha goal in the 37th minute was enough to see Crystal Palace win.

Brighton 3 - 1 West Ham

Things looked bright for the Hammers after Michael Antonio's goal in the 40th minute gave them the lead at the break. However, Brighton stormed back in the second half to win 3-1, so United's spot in the Europa League was safe. With the win, Brighton secured their best ever finish in England's top-flight league.

Brentford 1 - 2 Leeds United

A Leeds win and a Burnley loss would've sealed the Peacocks' spot in the top flight for another season. Raphinha's penalty in the 56th minute gave them the lead, but Sergi Canos scored the equalizer in the 78th minute before being sent off on a red card two minutes later. Jack Harrison's long goal four minutes into stoppage time got Leeds the 2-1 win.

Burnley 1 - 2 Newcastle

As long as Burnley won, they would've been safe from relegation due to having the better goal differential compared to Leeds. However, Callum Wilson dropped a brace on the Clarets en route to a 2-1 victory, sending Burnley to the EFL Championship after Leeds' result. They were initially promoted after the 2015-16 season and now head back.

Chelsea 2 - 1 Watford

Leicester City 4 - 1 Southampton
