A's Interested in Rafael Furcal's Medical Records, Deal Brewing?

Rafael Furcal is being overshadowed in the free agency market right now, thanks to a bevy of heavyweight superstars on the market. That does not, however, mean he's desperate for attention. There are more than a handful of teams rumored to have been connected with Furcal in regard to interest in the speedy shortstop.

The Oakland Athletics appear to be one of the suitors. They are currently examining Furcal's medical records, according to a report on MLB.com. Obviously, they are interested in him, but don't want to commit to the multi-year deal it would take to land him. Furcal had been quite durable throughout this career, but he missed the overwhelming majority of the 2008 season with back woes. The A's have been decimated the past two years due to injury woes, so their concern here makes perfect sense.

The A's have already acquired Matt Holliday, and it makes sense that they'd want to land Furcal and a few other bats to bolster what was an absolutely pathetic offense in 2008. They do have an assortment of kids -- as they always do with Billy Beane at the helm -- but proven bats like Holliday and Furcal would be the fixtures in the lineup they need.
