Fuentes New Closer For Halos

Angels fans, the song is “For You” from Staind.

That is the traditional entrance music for Brian Fuentes, the left-handed closer the Angels signed away from the Rockies Wednesday in a two year deal for $17.5 million with a team option for the third year.

Fuentes, 33, had 30 saves and a career-best 2.73 ERA last season, despite playing half his games in a park hitters love and pitchers fear. His numbers should improve this year in a friendlier pitching environment.

Fuentes has the unenviable task of trying to fill the shoes of Francisco Rodriquez, who had a record 62 saves last year before cashing in with the Mets this winter.

Born in Northern California and still spending his winters near Merced, Fuentes said he wanted to play for a West Coast team and had specifically mentioned the Angels as an option last month.
