CARSON, Calif. – He's baaaaack.
Los Angeles Galaxy star, Giovani dos Santos, announced that he will be back on the pitch when his team hosts the MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers on Sunday at StubHub Center.
Dos Santos was injured in the Galaxy's opening night, 4-1 victory, over D.C. United. The Mexican midfielder/forward came off the pitch at halftime and did not return.
He's missed the team's last three-games with a left leg injury, but was training with the team for over a week and head coach Bruce Arena said he was "making strides," after practice on Wednesday morning.
The Galaxy need all the bodies they can get, especially up top as the team is without striker Robbie Keane for the next 6-to-8 weeks as the Irishman underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
Midfielder Steven Gerrard also remains out of the lineup with a calf injury so Los Angeles could use the help on offense that Dos Santos provides.
"We'll see as we get into the week," Arena told LA Galaxy Insider, Adam Serrano.
Looks like Gio took the guessing out of the equation with his Instagram announcement on Wednesday afternoon. No word yet on whether or not Dos Santos will start again at central midfield, or if he will replace Keane up top.
