Globetrotters, Local Kids Team Up for Awareness

Players will help out with key causes

The Harlem Globetrotters bring excitement wherever they go, and now they're bringing some goodwill to the Southland.

The reigning "Clown Prince of Basketball" himself -- that's right, Kevin "Special K" Daley -- and Wun "The Shot" Versher will team up with local elementary schools to raise awareness for key causes this Wednesday through Friday.

"Hoops for Heart Kickoff" event will take place Wednesday at Balboa Elementary in Glendale, with 500 students slated to help out. The event is a fundraiser in conjunction with the American Heart Association.

Para Los Ninos Charter Elementary and Middle School in Los Angeles will host a motivational hands-on clinic on Thursday, and Special Olympics Orange County basketball teams will host an event in Anaheim on Friday.

Daley, a native of Panama City, attended Azusa Pacific University in 2000. Versher, one of the Globetrotter's longest-tenured players, is from Compton.

The Harlem Globetrotters 2011 world tour will be at Citizens Bank Arena, Honda Center, and Staples Center later this month.
