After Tuesday’s 110-97 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Lakers went into the locker room dejected and frustrated. LA had now lost eight of its last nine games, and a tough second night of a back-to-back was waiting in Houston. Before Wednesday rolled around, the players and coaches offered some words.
First up, Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni spoke.
“You stay positive. It would be different if they weren’t trying. They’re trying. We just don’t have enough horses right now. “
D’Antoni was asked his thoughts on playing 10 of 11 games on the road and offered a dark joke to explain his sentiments on the upcoming schedule.
“That’s why they give me a room on the second floor,” D’Antoni said. “At least if I jump, I just break an ankle.”
Outside of D’Antoni, Nick Young may be the happiest guy around. Young is not known for his deep thoughts, but he offered some interesting post-game comments.
“It just hurts to lose,” Young said. “When you find yourself in a hole, somehow, you got to find a way to dig up out of it. Right now, we’re in a hole and keep getting buried.”
Only collecting two points, Young had his worst outing of the season. After the game, D’Antoni revealed Young was suffering with a back issue.
“I’m not going to say I’m out (and) I’m not going to say I’m in because we only got what nine, eight players. I don’t want to leave them guys out there to dry,” Young said when asked if he would be able to play against Houston.
“Ain’t no place to go but up. You got to go up,” Young wrapped up with a positive message.
Kendall Marshall set career-highs in his first two starts, but the game against Dallas saw the young point guard commit six turnovers.

“We have every excuse in the world, but we don’t want to use that,” Marshall said. “We want to continue to get better.”
Jodie Meeks has been on a tear recently. He scored 24 points against the Mavericks, and that performance came on the heels of a 23-point outing against Denver and an 18-point performance against Utah.
“We had some turnovers,” Meeks answered when asked how the game got away from the Lakers. “We had some good shots. We just didn’t knock them down. It’s seems like the same story every game.”
