Mets Reach Minor League Deals With Kemp, Santana

A person familiar with the deal says veteran outfielder Matt Kemp and the New York Mets have agreed to a minor league contract.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a physical and had not been announced. It was the second move the banged-up Mets made Friday to replenish their depth.

Hours earlier, they announced an agreement with pitcher Ervin Santana on a minor league contract, pending a successful physical.

Both players are expected to report to the club's spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The 34-year-old Kemp, who made his third All-Star team last season with the Dodgers, was released May 4 by Cincinnati.

He batted .200 with a home run and five RBIs for the Reds and had been sidelined since April 23 with a broken left rib.
