It may have not been the most shocking news out of the NBA, but Kobe Bryant's retirement announcement on Sunday afternoon suddenly made the understanding that we may not see the "Black Mamba" on the floor anymore a sad and bittersweet reality.
After this season, we will no longer see the pump fakes followed by a sweet jump shot, the thunderous dunks over the NBA's elite, the buzzer-beaters or one of the greatest scorers ever to play the game again.
The announcement sent ripple effects throughout the league, as players, both past and present, legends, rookies, and former teammates all weighed in on No. 24's decision to hang it up after 20 unforgettable seasons.
Wayne Ellington: "It meant a lot to play alongside him. He's a guy that inspired me, honestly. As a young kid, I used to be out there on the court trying to be Kobe. He's the best player in our generation."
Pau Gasol: "We have lived incredible moments together on and off the court. Thanks for everything brother!"
Paul George: "I told him I was going to cherish this moment. What a feeling to play against your idol.
Magic Johnson: "He's the closest thing we've seen to Michael Jordan. He'll probably go down as the second-greatest scoring guard. You couldn't stop him. His will to win was incredible and he stayed in the gym like no other."
