Will the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers Break the MLB Record For Wins? Oddsmakers Say No

The 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers are currently in the midst of a historical season, but can they break the all-time MLB record for wins? Here's what the oddsmakers say.

This one's for the record books.

There's no debating that the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers are an all-time great team.

At 91-38 they currently hold the best record in baseball by leaps and bounds and by any measure, are all but guaranteed to wrap up the number one overall seed heading into the MLB postseason this October.

The Dodgers have been on a record setting pace all season long and have written their name in the history books along the way.

On August 9, they recorded their 80th win to become the fastest team in franchise history to reach that mark in a season.

They rank first or second in baseball in almost every statistical category. They hold the best record at home and away in the National League and are on pace to shatter the all-time run differential record in a single season.

Despite all the accolades and historic stats, there's one record in particular that the oddsmakers are interested in: 116 wins.

That's the MLB record for the most wins in a regular season set by the Chicago Cubs who went an astounding 116-36 in 1906. Ironically, that team did not win the World Series, as they lost to their crosstown rival, the White Sox, in six games.

Las Vegas has opened prop bets on the amount of wins the Dodgers will reach in the regular season at sportsbooks across the desert.

BetOnline.ag oddsmakers set the bar at 110 wins for the Dodgers in the regular season. According to their bookmakers, there's a 52 percent chance the Boys in Blue win more than 110 games, and 53.5 percent chance they win less than 110 games.

However, oddsmakers disagree and they place the probability of that happening at about 13 percent. According to the sportsbook, there's a 92 percent chance they will not break the record.

For those that bleed blue out there and enjoy a wager, the odds are 13/2 if you bet the Dodgers will break the all-time MLB record, and a $100 bet will win you $650 in return.

The all-time franchise record for wins in Dodgers history is 105 wins set by the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers led by Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese.

That team finished 105-49 and went on to lose the World Series in six games to the rival New York Yankees.

If you prefer to make a safer bet, oddsmakers believe that the current Dodgers team will shatter the 1953 record and place the odds at nearly 77 percent.

If you like more of a sure thing, a $325 bet will win you only $100, but you could certainly bet the over in all three situations in order to hedge your bets.

There's no doubting the 2017 Dodgers are one of the best teams in recent memory, and could go on to win their first World Series in 29 years. The only question now, is how much you're willing to bet on it.
