A man was hospitalized Friday night for wounds he suffered in a stabbing at the Jefferson/USC Metro Expo Line station, police said.

Police responded to the station located near the intersection of Flower Street and Jefferson Boulevard about 9 p.m. and located the victim, who had stumbled onto a train after the attack, according to Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The train did not leave the station and the victim was taken to a hospital and directly into surgery, Madison said.

The attacker was described as a black man, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 190 to 200 pounds, with dreadlocks, wearing all-black clothing and carrying a backpack, Madison said.

A weapon was not recovered. A motive for the stabbing was not disclosed.
