2-Month-Old Baby Safe After Overnight SWAT Standoff in South LA

A standoff began at a South LA apartment following a report of a burglary and a brief chase

A 2-month-old baby carried by a SWAT officer from an apartment during an overnight standoff is safe and one person is in custody after surrendering early Friday.

Law enforcement officers, including SWAT members, responded to a South Los Angeles neighborhood early Friday after a burglary report and pursuit crash led to a standoff.

Aerial video showed rows of police vehicles lined up near 65th Street and Broadway, just east of the 110 Freeway. Officers initially responded to a report of a burglary in the area and a brief pursuit ensued.

The chase ended with a crash and three occupants ran from the vehicle. One of the individuals was barricaded inside an apartment, but two other occupants were not located.

The large police response included armored SWAT vehicles. At one point, an officer could be seen carrying what appeared to be a baby carrier from the apartment.

"You can't put a timeframe on safety," said LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery. "This is one of those things where everything worked out."

At least one person is in custody.
