Bouts of heavy rain and high winds were expected to hit the Southland Monday during another fit of thunderstorms brought on by a passing storm system.
Post-tropical cyclone Norbert brought showers to the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys Monday morning as the Inland Empire recovered before another round of flash floods expected in the afternoon.
“We had a lot of heat over the weekend, especially yesterday, that helped to fuel these thunderstorms,” said NBC4 meteorologist Crystal Egger. “And on top of that, subtropical moisture. So you’re going to get some very heavy downpours.”
Rain could be seen falling in pockets of South LA, Woodland Hills and Santa Clarita Valley Monday morning.
The Southland conditions come a day after the Inland Empire was socked with flash floods and high winds, leading to eight people being rescued from the strong rain. By Sunday night the conditions began to calm down, but another stretch was expected Monday afternoon.
“Another round, and then we start to settle down by the time we get into Tuesday,” Egger said.
A flash flood warning remained in effect for Riverside County until 8:45 a.m.
Temperatures were expected to stay hot and muggy throughout the storm, with highs in the upper 80s.
