Suspect Dies in Confrontation With Sheriff's Deputies in Lake Elsinore

The suspect who was wounded in the deputy-involved shooting in Lake Elsinore has died, the sheriff's department reports.

The shooting occurred about 4 p.m. in the area of Chaney Street and Collier Avenue, according to sheriff's officials.

Few details were available, but according to reports from the scene, the suspect was fatally wounded when he allegedly brandished a weapon at the end of a short vehicle chase.

No deputies were injured.

The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred last weekend.

He would not pull over for deputies and later rammed a vehicle with two people in it.

The suspect was shot after he got out of the vehicle.

The two people in the rammed vehicle were not seriously injured.

The shooting occurred about 10 miles north of an ongoing standoff between deputies and a man in a residence near Clinton Keith and Smith Ranch roads. The circumstances behind the standoff were not confirmed.
