Suspect Involved in Deadly South Gate Hit-and-Run Arrested

A man sought by police in a hit-and-run crash that left a teen and man dead over the weekend was taken into custody Tuesday, South Gate police confirmed.

Bryan Rojas, 22, was suspected of being behind the wheel in the deadly crash, and was accused of running away from the wreck.

A man and a teenage girl were identified Sunday as the victims killed in the violent hit-and-run crash at El Paseo Street and S. Garfield Avenue.

Los Angeles coroner's officials identified Lester Larios, 55, and Angie Ruiz, 15, both from Bell, as the victims killed in the two-vehicle crash that also left five others injured just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

A Mitsubishi carrying five people was turning into a shopping center when a speeding Mercedes struck them. All five were trapped in the vehicle as firefighters worked to free them. Larios and Ruiz died at the scene.

Three people were transported to a hospital in critical condition, and two others had minor injuries, police said. Police took one person into custody and were looking for Rojas who police said fled on foot from the crash.

Rojas was identified as a person of interest by Bell Gardens police. Police said Rojas suffered an injury to his forehead in the crash.
