Residents heard sirens echoing through the streets of downtown Los Angeles early Tuesday morning after a suspected car thief tried to break into a house at the end of a high-speed pursuit.
Just after 2:30 a.m. a chase started when officers tried to pull over the driver of a Dodge Charger near 8th Street and the 110 Freeway with three passengers inside, a Los Angeles Police Department representative said.
The driver refused to yield, and a pursuit ensued on the eastbound 10, 101 and 110 freeways, with speeds exceeding 120 mph at times.
"It went to the 10... to Baldwin Park, then the driver came back this way," LAPD Officer Hamilton Alvarenga said.
Blocks away from where it started, it was coming to an end, as the driver pulled into a parking structure and bailed out of the car.
The driver and passengers fled on foot near Albany and 11th streets near downtown LA.
A few terrifying moments followed for residents of the area as they watched the suspects try to hide in and around the neighborhood.
"I said oh my god, he's trying to get through the window, we got low and hid in the closet," Emily Schneider said.

Schneider saw one of the suspects climb over her neighbor's fence, climb a balcony and try to break into the home.
Officers fired several rounds of bean bags, within moments, the man fell from the second floor of the home as he was trying to break in.
All four suspects were taken into custody.
