Teen From Beijing Missing After Leaving Claremont Motel

The teen left a Claremont motel on Friday and hasn't been seen since, police said

Police are searching for a 16-year-old boy from China who went missing in Claremont on Friday.

Jin Wuwei walked away from the Claremont Lodge, a motel in Claremont, and hasn't been seen since, according to a news release from the Claremont Police Department. He left the motel around 12:42 p.m. and "headed to an unknown destination."

He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and sweatpants with a white line on the outer seam. Surveillance footage from the motel shows Wuwei carrying a backpack. He did not have a lot of money on him, officials said.

Wuwei's mother told police that he speaks fluent English and doesn't have any friends or family in the Claremont area. He arrived in California from Beijing on Feb. 11. The mother and son were visiting potential colleges in the nearby area.

The teen is described as 6 feet tall and 140 pounds. Wuwei has black hair and brown eyes. He may be wearing black-rimmed eyeglasses, police said.

Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters said that there are no signs of foul play, but investigators are "not ruling anything out at this point."

Walters said the teen has not gone missing before.

Anyone with information on Wuwei's whereabouts was asked to contact Claremont police at 909-399-5411.
