Brother Sought in Teen Girl's Fatal Shooting at Lancaster Home

Eddie Alvirez was described as a person of interest in his sister's shooting death

The 18-year-old brother of a teen girl who was shot and killed is sought in connection with his sister's slaying Tuesday in Lancaster

Eddie Alvirez was described by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as a person of interest. He was in a bedroom that he shares with his two sisters at the time of the shooting.

"Alvirez was in possession of a handgun that he pointed at one of his sisters and shot," the department said in a statement released early Wednesday. "He fled the location on foot with the handgun."

Deputies initially responded to the home after a report of a girl who was shot with a BB gun. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was shot with a BB gun.

The shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Avenue J-15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she died, officials said.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, the sheriff's department said.
