Teen Taken Into Custody in Fatal Stabbing of Ex-Girlfriend

The ex-boyfriend of a 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed in her Pico Rivera home last week was taken into police custody Tuesday morning.

Rory Murga, 17, was sought in connection with the slaying of Elena Moore.

The victim's mother told investigators that she woke up to the sound of screams from her daughter, who ran upstairs after she was attacked. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The intruder entered the home through a backdoor while the girl, Elena Lillian Moore, was in her downstairs bedroom, deputies said. After the stabbing, she ran upstairs to her mother's bedroom.

"Based on the victim's statements to her mother prior to her collapse, the victim's ex-boyfriend is being sought to determine if he was involved in the attack," sheriff's officials said in a news release.

The teens met at Ruben Salazar High School and had been dating for about a year, the mother told investigators.
