Tenants Sue Landlord After South LA Balcony Collapse Injuries Several

The landlord of a South Los Angeles four-unit apartment building is being sued by five adults and several children who were injured when a second-floor balcony collapsed in March.

The adult plaintiffs in the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit are Lourdes Arcelia Gomez, Jose Pena Bautista, Adrian Espejo, Maria Elena Plascencia and Sergio Ramirez. They are suing Wilbur L. Scott, identified in the suit as the owner of the building in the 4600 block of South Wall Street.

Scott could not be immediately reached for comment on the suit, which was filed Wednesday and seeks unspecified damages.

The collapse occurred about 5:20 p.m. March 23 as the plaintiffs stood atop the balcony, according to the complaint, which alleges that Scott knew or should have known that the structure was in poor condition and failed to warn the plaintiffs of the danger.
