Stepdaughter, Two Others Charged in Slaying of Man

A Marina del Rey woman was charged along with two other people in the killing of her 72-year-old stepfather, whose burned body was discovered nearly two weeks ago in a San Bernardino County dry lake bed, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Haena Kealia Worthing, 44, is set to be arraigned Sept. 9 along with co-defendants Shavonne Webster, 40, of Winchester, Indiana, and John Schiefer, 38, of the San Luis Obispo community of Nipomo. All three are charged with murder for the Aug. 15 slaying of William Webb.

The Marina del Rey resident's body was found the next morning in a dry lake bed near Sunway Road and Rosehedge Avenue in the Joshua Tree area.

Worthing, who was arrested Monday by Los Angeles police, was the victim's stepdaughter, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The criminal complaint alleges that Webster and Schiefer used a hammer as a dangerous and deadly weapon. The two were arrested by Los Angeles police Aug. 21.

If convicted as charged, Worthing could face up to 25 years to life in state prison, while Webster and Schiefer could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
