If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
That's what Aida Chua did each week in her weekly tradition of buying Powerball tickets — two each on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
It finally paid off. Chua won $2,663,348 in the Saturday, April 18 drawing, lottery officials announced Tuesday.
Luck was on her side when the tickets Chua asked her sister to buy at a Southern California Vons near her sister's workplace were winning numbers.
"An employee came over and told my sister that we may be winners." Chua told lottery officials. "I was so happy I had to call all my family and tell them after I double checked the numbers."
Those numbers — 31, 22, 13, 23, and 29 — were inspired by birthdays, Chua said. The only one missing was 17, the Powerball number.
Chua, who isn't working, plans to open a business and travel to Europe with family, officials said.

Vons will receive a bonus of $13,316, or .5 percent of the prize, lottery officials said.
The odds of winning the full grand prize are about 1 in 176 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The chance that Chua matched all numbers minus the Powerball was about 1 in 5.1 million.
The current estimated jackpot is $60 million, according to the association.
