Up to $1,000 was being offered for information leading to a man who tried to pull a 9-year-old elementary schoolgirl into his van near a Newbury Park school.

The girl was riding her bicycle alone to school Friday at 8:15 a.m. at Spanish Gate Drive and Lesser Drive when the man grabbed her leg, officials said in a news release. She got away from the man and told Walnut Elementary School school officials about the attack.

The man was described as a white or Hispanic in his 30s with brown hair. He was wearing aviator sunglasses and all black clothing. He was also wearing a mask on the lower part of his face.

His pants were possibly stained with paint, and he wore black Nike shoes, authorities said. The van had no windows on the side, but had square tinted windows on the back. The front windows also had dark tint on them, officials said. The van was described as square shaped, similar to a Chevy Astro van.

Anyone with information about the man was urged to contact Detective Sergeant Dan Hawes at (805) 371-8392. Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information, which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the person(s) responsible for this crime. The caller may remain anonymous. The call is not recorded. Call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
