A motorcycle rider was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter after allegedly causing a fiery fatal crash Thursday that involved six vehicles on the 101 Freeway in Encino.

A preliminary investigation indicated the motorcyclist ran into the back of a Lexus, throwing a passenger from the bike. The 20-year-old woman, who died at the scene, was then struck by at least one of vehicle.

A Kia Soul crashed into the motorcycle after the rear-end collision, causing the fire.

The crash was reported at 12:45 a.m. near Hayvenhurst Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.

The motorcycle rider was hospitalized with what authorities described as moderate injuries. He was identified as 27-year-old Marcos Valenti, of Huntington Park. Authorities said he was arrested, accused of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

All westbound lanes were blocked for the investigation but the CHP opened the No. 5 and 6 lanes by 4:30 a.m. Lanes reopened later Thursday morning.
