Family members have identified the 54-year-old man who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Koreatown Monday morning.
Javier Hernandez was one three pedestrians who were hit around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Beverly Boulevard and Normandie Avenue after a driver ran a red light, hit two vehicles and then crashed into a group of pedestrians who were waiting at the bus stop, witnesses said.
Hernandez was killed and two others were critically injured. They remained hospitalized as of Monday night.
"He was very respectful, nice. He was never mean to anybody," Hernandez's niece Stella Martinez said. "He didn’t deserve to die like this."
According to Ulises Gaona, the two others struck by the hit-and-run driver were his aunt and uncle, who are brother and sister.
Benita Correa said the two injured victim are likely her neighbors.

"Every morning they come to take the bus here," Correa said. "They're nice people. They have families."
The driver of the white Ford F150 abandoned his vehicle at the scene and fled on foot.
He was described as a Hispanic man between 35 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with short dark hair. He was wearing a red shirt and black pants, police said.
