Video Released of Gunman Who Killed Downey Liquor Store Co-Owner

Gurpreet Singh, 44, was shot and killed Wednesday night at ASL Liquor and Market

Police Thursday released surveillance video of a gunman who shot and killed a co-owner of a Downey liquor store during a possible attempted robbery.

The shooting occurred about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday inside ASL Liquor and Market in the 8500 block of Paramount Boulevard, according to Downey police.

Gurpreet Singh, 44, of Cerritos died at the scene, the coroner's office reported. Singh was found behind the counter of the business, which he co-owned, said Downey police Lt. Kathleen Mendoza.

"Detectives are following up on several investigative leads," Mendoza said Wednesday afternoon. "At this time it appears to have been an attempted robbery, but detectives are not ruling out other possible motives."

Investigators released video of the suspect from the store's surveillance camera in the hope that someone recognizes him and contacts police, Mendoza said. The gunman appears to be possibly Hispanic, 20-30 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with short dark brown hair.

Security images also showed two men running from the area, but it was unclear if they had any involvement in the shooting.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has other information about the case was urged to call police at 562-904-2308. Anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 800- 222-TIPS or at lacrimestoppers.org.
