Wall of Remembrance Honors Victims of San Bernardino Massacre

Mourners gathered Saturday to honor the victims of the San Bernardino massacre at the Wall of Remembrance across the street from the site where 14 people were killed on Dec. 2.

The wall honors all Americans killed in terrorist acts since 1983. It has nearly 11,000 names on it, both of fallen members of the U.S. military and victims of terror attacks both domestic and abroad.

The names of 14 people who were killed when a husband and wife opened fire at a holiday event at the Inland Regional Center earlier this month were added on Thursday. Nohemi Gonzalez, the 24-year-old Cal State Long Beach student who was killed in the Paris terror attacks on Nov. 13 was also added.

JR Nichols has been at the Wall of Remembrance since Thursday. "The community of San Bernardino needs this," he said as he draped an American flag over the names of the victims.

Nichols, who is from Placentia, is not a veteran and has no direct ties to the San Bernardino community, but decided to take the panels out of storage to help community cope with the loss.

The wall was not set to be on display this month because of the holidays, but organizers say they knew they had to bring it back after the tragedy and add the names of the new victims.

The Wall of Remembrance will be on display 24 hours a day throughout the weekend at the San Bernardino Public Golf Course, across the street from the Inland Regional Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, and a sunrise church memorial service is scheduled on Sunday at 6:30 a.m.

Funerals are scheduled Saturday for victims Tin Nguyen, Isaac Amanios and Shannon Johnson.
