Water Main Bursts, Sends Up 25-Foot Geyser

A 12-inch water main burst Wednesday in the Westmont area of Los Angeles, sending up a 25-foot geyser of water through the surface of a street.

The problem was reported late Wednesday morning at Western Avenue south of Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Crews shut off the flow of water, and worked to repair the main and the street. Western Avenue was closed between Century Boulevard and 103rd Street as a precaution.

The water main break affected 40 customers, said Christy Holland of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. She noted that repairs would likely be made later in the day on Wednesday.
