The trainer of a rare parrot last seen one week ago at Mission Bay Park fears the bird could be with someone else.
Carly Lu, a 9-year-old African gray parrot, went missing after an outing on June 24, according to her trainer Raz Rasmussen, an oceanographer at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
Rasmussen said a friend tried to take the parrot on his bike and spooked her, sending her flying into the night sky. She has not been seen since.
Carly Lu is free-flight trained, meaning she flies outdoors without a leash and returns to her owner when called.
Rasmussen said Carly Lu could be mixing with wild birds or could have been stolen. She is very friendly and could have approached a stranger.
Carly Lu had an ID tag attached to her foot. Some of her frequent phrases are “What?”, “Nowww what?” and “Porker!”
Carly Lu and her mate Piper, a 5-year-old African Grey Parrot, could be seen most afternoons flying at Mission Bay Park. Rasmussen said Piper has been in distress since Carly Lu’s disappearance.

Rasmussen is offering a $1,200 reward for the parrot’s safe return or information that leads to her safe return.
