Authorities Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide in Arcadia

A stabbing suspect and hostage were killed in the June 16 LAPD shooting in Van Nuys

A married couple died Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide in Arcadia, authorities said.

Investigators went to the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard about 8:20 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is assisting Arcadia police in the investigation.

A woman in her 40s died at the scene and a man in his 40s died at a hospital, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Their names were withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

"Police department officers responded to the location regarding a call of a person down," a sheriff's statement said. "Upon arrival, the officers found a man and a woman in an alleyway behind an apartment, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds."

The pair were married but living separately, the sheriff's department reported. It was unclear who resided at the location.

"It appears the woman was shot by the man before the man turned the gun on himself," the statement said. "The weapon is in custody and there is no suspect outstanding."
