Woman in Her 50s Killed in Fire at Pacific Palisades Townhouse

A woman was killed and another was taken to the hospital in serious condition after a fire at a two-story townhouse complex in Pacific Palisades early Saturday.

The blaze started at 3:50 a.m. in the 17000 block of W. Palisades Circle and was knocked down in 35 minutes by 31 firefighters, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A woman in her 50s was killed in the blaze. She was found while authorities searched the burnt bedroom, and died on scene. She had not yet been identified around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Her housemate, who was about 70 years old, tried to battle flames with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition and treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to one townhouse unit, Stewart said.

The LAFD Arson Unit responded to the scene for the investigation.
