A 27-year-old woman was killed Thursday by a man who followed her near an apartment complex in East Hollywood, officials said.
Cindy Lopez was gunned down in the driveway of the Marjorie Rose apartments off North Oxford Avenue. She was studying criminal justice, family members said.
As mourners left flowers, investigators flooded the area searching for clues.
LAPD Lt. John Radtke said the gunman, who was wearing shorts and a blue shirt, ran away.
Police had earlier said a man with a comb-over fled the scene in a light blue Toyota Rav4, last seen heading north on Oxford and east on Romaine, but Radtke said that has not been verified and investigators have received conflicting information.
"We're still talking to everybody, talking to family members, everybody in this area," Radke said. "We don't know if the two know one another or not. It does appear this is not a random act."
