Workers Critical After Jack-Hammering into Live Power Line in Irvine

Two workers were critically injured when they made contact with a live power line in Irvine on Friday night.

The men were jack-hammering in a pit while conducting repairs at the intersection of Michaelson Drive and Harvard Avenue when they hit the high voltage line at around 10:15 a.m, Orange County Fire Department said.

The men suffered burns to their face and hands in the accident, and they were taken to a nearby trauma center in a critical condition to a nearby burn and trauma center.

The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified, and will be handling the investigation.
