Wrong-Way Driver Suspected of DUI in Santa Ana 5 Freeway Crash

Four people were injured Saturday in a head-on collision on the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Santa Ana involving a wrong-way driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI, authorities said.

The driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the Santa Ana Freeway near First Street at 1:30 a.m. when the vehicle plowed into a second vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics responded to take four injured people in the second vehicle to hospitals, the CHP said.

A 44-year-old woman, 49-year-old man and 50-year-old man with major injuries were taken to OC Global Medical Center in Santa Ana and a 44-year-old woman with minor injuries was taken to UCI Medical Center, the CHP said.
