    San Gabriel Valley Pursuit Ends with Pit Maneuver

    An auto theft suspect was finally apprehended when officers used the pit maneuver to flip his vehicle over. The suspect was not hurt. (Published Monday, July 11, 2011)

    A driver who spoke on a cellphone and drove without  headlights led California Highway Patrol officers on a nearly hourlong high- speed chase before flipping the vehicle over in West Covina.

    The chase entered Los Angeles County about 9:05 p.m. from San Bernardino  County, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said. It ended when  the driver overturned the late-1990s Ford Explorer on the Azusa Avenue on-ramp  to the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway about 10 p.m., Kimball said.

    The suspect was not taken to a hospital but was in custody at 10:02  p.m., Kimball said. His name was not immediately released.

    The vehicle was stolen, according to broadcast reports. Kimball could  not confirm if it was stolen.
