Crews today cleared wreckage off the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks after a tanker truck carrying 8,600 gallons of butane overturned, blocking all lanes for several hours.
"There was no spill," California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Gonzalez said, adding that firefighters and Hazmat crews had to work carefully to remove the big rig from the freeway because it was carrying flammable liquids.
The accident on the 405 just north of the Ventura (101) Freeway was reported about 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to the CHP, which said that the tanker came to rest on its side.
There were no reported injuries, Gonzalez said. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
All southbound and northbound lanes were shut down to allow crews to remove the wreck, Gonzalez said.
Southbound traffic was diverted off at Burbank Boulevard while northbound traffic was diverted to the 101. All lanes were reopened by 6 a.m., the CHP reported.
