D23 Expo's whimsical Walt Disney Archives exhibit will include a host of iconic ensembles, including Cinderella's gown and Maleficent's marvelous look.

What to Know

  • D23 Expo
  • Anaheim Convention Center
  • Aug. 23-25, 2019

Truth time: Are you Team Hero or Team Villain, when it comes aligning with the characters peopling the classic line-up of Walt Disney films?

That's a real toughie, as tough as a dragon is tall and a fairy godmother is talented.

On the one hand, if you're Team Hero, you're supporting a world where pumpkins transform into carriages and mice rock pretty awesome tailoring skills.

But if you're Team Villain? Basically you can summon the power of the winds and lightening simply by raising your staff in a dramatic fashion, which is nothing to hiss at.

Both teams, though, will get their centerstage moment at D23 Expo, the super-mega-everything Disney convention bringing the magic to the Anaheim Convention Center from Friday, Aug. 23 through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Over 70 costumes from the Walt Disney Archives will go on display at D23 as part of the "Walt Disney Archives Presents Heroes and Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume."

Exhibition entrance is included in your ticket to the huge-of-scale expo.

Costumes you're sure to see?

Oh, what magic: The iridescent blue gown seen on "Cinderella" in the 2015 live-action film will be part of the display, as will Maleficent's horn-tastic couture.

Fairy-tale-ish frocks seen in ABC's "Once Upon a Time" will also be in the house, as will some witchy looks from 1993's "Hocus Pocus."

And sisters, here's something exciting: A fresh book, detailing some of the famous costumes, will debut in September 2019. "The Art of Disney Costuming: Heroes, Villains, and Spaces Between," from Disney Editions, will be positively a-twinkle with tidbits and images featuring these sartorial superstars.

Why not see them live, a few weeks before the book's release?

Just be sure to be in Anaheim over the final weekend of August 2019, whether you're Team Hero, Team Villain, or a little bit of both.
