Best of the West Chowderfest

The Aquarium holds a day devoted to sustainable seafood.

Local chefs will be gathering at the Aquarium of the Pacific on Saturday, March 12 for a day devoted to the hot topic of sustainable seafood, as well as the cooking of chowder. And not just any chowder, but the Best of the West.

Lots of chowder, and lots of types, too; with cooks from places like Parkers Lighthouse, Primal Alchemy, and King's Fish House, the variety will be notable (as will what will go into the chowders; Dungeness crab and salmon will be included in some of the offerings, as well as the traditional clam).

It's open to anyone with a paid aquarium admission (members, of course, are free); and note that it is a competition -- the title rather gives that away -- so you'll be hobnobbing with some top chowderists.

Chowderfest happens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 12, but note that the ladles will only be pouring out the good stuff from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., so be sure to be there during that time if you want a taste or four.
