Bob Newhart will read a Christmas classic at the Dec. 10 evening Rockettes show at Nokia.

Bob Newhartcelebrated his 50th year in show business two months ago, and we still haven't gotten over mooning over the man.

But really, does anyone ever? Bob. Newhart. One of five people in history who can just stand there and be funny. Now we've just gotten fresh word, word that's so fresh in fact we're not yet seeing it over at The Rockettes HQ, that Mr. Newhart will be opening the Friday, Dec. 10 Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Nokia Theatre with a reading of Clement Moore's "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

He is, in fact, being described as that evening's "Master of Ceremonies."

Getting to see Mr. Newhart do his patented stop-and-start humor live is a holiday gift indeed. That the Rockettes will be on hand to do some high-kicking adds to the festiveness. And we're already thinking of nine different parts of the famous Christmas poem that we'll be charmed by, when we hear them read in Mr. Newhart's distinctive voice.

Mama in her kerchief? We are pre-smiling.

We should note that he is only slated to appear at the evening show on Friday, Dec. 10; the earlier matinee will be Newhart-less, but still rife with Rockettery.
