Buy a Starter Yacht at the L.A. Boat Show

56th annual convention offers everything for your seafaring needs

When seafaring gentlemen like Jay-Z, Paul Allen, Ted Turner and Judge Smails need a new yacht, they probably have their butler call up their boat broker.

Thankfully for those of us aquatic enthusiasts with a slightly smaller disposable income, there's the Los Angeles Boat Show, a veritable four day flotilla of water-ready whips that kicks off Thursday, February 9 at the L.A. Convention Center. From sleek motor yachts like the 56-foot Carver 54 Voyager (two bedrooms, recessed lighting, VIP State Room, natch) to a zippy Bayliner Bowrider that's cheaper than most two-door cars, there's virtually a boat for any budget. And with accessories to trick out your fishing or pontoon boat, it's literally a one-stop-shop for all your high seas needs.

If gawking at yachts rather than buying them is more your speed, fear not, there's plenty of entertainment to pair with your boat lust. Stunt biker Jeremy Van Schoonhoven, who dazzled audiences of America's Got Talent!, will be on hand performing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, while Abby Sunderland will recount her experience in trying to be the first teen to sail around the world. Add stand-up paddleboarding demos and an indoor paddle boat pond for kids, and you've got enough distractions to make the day a family affair.

The 56th annual Los Angeles Boat show takes place from Thursday February 9 through Sunday February 12. Tickets are available here
